What this website collects

Very little. This website has no contact form, no account system and no shopping basket, so there is nothing on it that asks you to type in personal information.

It also sets no cookies, uses no analytics or tracking software, and stores nothing in your browser. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to.

Fonts and images are served from this site's own domain rather than a third-party CDN, so simply reading a page does not disclose your visit to any advertising or analytics company.

Server logs

The site is hosted by Vercel Inc. Like any web host, Vercel automatically records basic technical information each time a page is requested. This typically includes your IP address, the page requested, the time of the request, and your browser and device type.

These logs exist to keep the site running securely and to diagnose faults. They are not used to build a profile of you, are not combined with any other information, and are not used for marketing.

The lawful basis is legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) — specifically, keeping the website available and secure. Vercel acts as a data processor and may process this data outside the European Economic Area under the transfer safeguards described in its own privacy documentation.

If you contact us

When you phone, email or text about a job, the information you provide is used to answer you, quote the work and carry it out. Depending on the enquiry that may include:

  • Your name and the contact details you supply
  • The address of the property the work relates to
  • A description of the work, including any photos you send
  • Records of the work carried out, materials used and test results

Why we are allowed to hold it

For quotations and enquiries, the lawful basis is steps taken at your request prior to entering a contract, and thereafter performance of that contract (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).

For certification and test records, the lawful basis is legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c) GDPR) — a registered electrical contractor is required to complete and retain certification for restricted electrical work.

For accounting records, the lawful basis is also legal obligation: Irish tax law requires business records to be retained, generally for six years.

How long it is kept

Enquiries that do not turn into work are deleted once it is clear nothing is proceeding, and in any event within twelve months.

Records relating to completed work — certificates, test results, invoices — are kept for as long as required by Safe Electric certification rules and Irish tax law, generally six years from the end of the relevant tax year.

Who it is shared with

Your information is not sold, rented or traded, and it is not used for marketing.

It is shared only where necessary to do the job or comply with the law: with Safe Electric Ireland and the relevant registration body where certification requires it; with an accountant for invoicing and tax purposes; with a supplier or specialist subcontractor where a specific job requires it; and with ESB Networks or a similar body where a connection or supply alteration is involved.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data held about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data erased where there is no continuing legal reason to keep it, to restrict or object to processing, and to receive your data in a portable format.

Requests are free and will be answered within one month. Note that records which must be retained by law — certification and accounting records in particular — cannot be deleted on request until their retention period has expired.

If you are not satisfied with how a request is handled, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission, 21 Fitzwilliam Square South, Dublin 2, D02 RD28 — dataprotection.ie.

Automated decision-making

None is carried out. Quotations and decisions about work are made by a person, not by software.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated date at the top.
